We help organisations communicate clearly by developing Easy English resources, accessible documents, and inclusive communication strategies that put understanding first.
Easy English 4 U is a disability-led and disability-owned business specialising in Easy English and accessible information for people with low literacy and digital literacy needs.
We support government agencies, non-government organisations (NGOs), and businesses with training, consultancy, and interpretation of complex content.
Our approach uses universal design and cognitive load reduction techniques to create accessible documents that facilitate inclusive communication and vital information.
Why Accessible Information?
Do you know your audience?
Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2013 #4228) shows that 44% of Australian adults struggle with day-to-day reading tasks. Low literacy is defined as a reading ability at or below level 2, as classified by the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED). The expected literacy level for those who have completed lower secondary education is ISCED Level 2.
What does this mean?
These literacy statistics mean many Australian adults are excluded from accessing important information. Much important information is written in plain language. Plain language is a standard accessible format used by the Australian Government. However, Plain Language can require a reader to have up to ISCED level 3 literacy, excluding many in the process.
What is Easy English?
Easy English is a form of accessible information that uses cognitive-load reduction techniques to increase the readability of information.
Writing in Easy English means using clear, simple, and straightforward language. It also uses concrete images to support written communication and make it more accessible. People understand Easy English information more easily, regardless of their language skills, education level, or cognitive abilities. It is significantly more accessible than plain language and Easy Read.
How we can help
Our services aim to help you connect with your target audience in a way they can understand. We offer content development, editing services, and training. We can also help you to understand the accessibility of your existing content through readability assessments and reports.
EE4U Accessible Consent Toolkit™
Launching soon.
Achieving informed consent is more than obtaining a signature on a form. Integral to organisational trust, professional integrity, and long-term reputation, consent is a structured, deliberate decision-making process which should be grounded in clarity, understanding, and genuine choice. When seeking consent, organisations must ensure that the person fully understands what is being asked of them, why it matters, the risks and alternatives, and what they are agreeing to. For that to happen, the information needs to be provided in a format that is accessible to them.
The EE4U Accessible Consent Toolkit™ is a cross-sector framework designed to support organisations to implement clear, defensible, and accessible consent practices across disability, health, research, and government settings.
This toolkit integrates:
Plain Language and Easy English consent materials, ready for organisational branding and dissemination.
supported decision-making guidance

service-facing consent checklists
